Capturing the Birth of Baby Atticus in Covington, LA

Birth

A Gentle Morning Welcome for Baby Atticus

As a birth photographer in Covington, I am honored to witness powerful stories of life and love—and Baby Atticus’ birth was a beautiful reminder of both. This intimate homebirth took place in the family’s bathroom during the early hours of a January morning.I arrived in the early morning hours, while the world outside was still wrapped in darkness. Inside, the home was quiet, and mom was already deep in labor—peaceful, focused, and grounded. She lay in bed, eyes closed, moving through each contraction with the calm of someone fully surrendered to the process. Her husband was right there beside her, providing silent strength and constant support.

3 Things That Made This Birth So Memorable:

  1. Mom’s quiet strength while drifting in “labor land”
  2. The emotional connection and attentiveness of her husband
  3. A symbolic and poetic birth—baby “Day” arriving with the light

This session was full of emotion, quiet strength, and a deep sense of partnership. Keep reading to experience the magic of this January home birth through the lens of a birth photographer in Covington.

Before the Sun Rose: The Beginning of Labor

I arrived in the early morning hours, while the world outside was still wrapped in darkness. Inside, the home was quiet, and mom was already deep in labor—peaceful, focused, and grounded. She lay in bed, eyes closed, moving through each contraction with the calm of someone fully surrendered to the process. Her husband was right there beside her, providing silent strength and constant support.

The Arrival of the Midwives & the Water Birth Setup

Around 7am, the midwives arrived and gently entered the space. They quickly assessed that mom was fully dilated, but she didn’t yet feel the urge to push. She moved into the warm water of the birth tub and continued to labor down for nearly three more hours. Her trust in her body and the process was inspiring.

The Moment Baby Atticus Was Born

When it was finally time, everything unfolded quickly. Just a few focused pushes and baby Atticus was here—born into his mother’s hands and lifted gently onto her chest. It was nearly 11am, and golden light filtered through the bathroom blinds as they met for the first time. His name, especially his middle name “Day,” couldn’t have been more perfect. Most babies arrive in the stillness of night, but not this radiant little soul.

Postpartum Moments and Newborn Exam

After the birth, the midwives helped mom move to the bed, and the room filled with soft conversation and joyful energy. I documented the newborn exam, capturing baby’s impressive head of hair and healthy stats (over 9 pounds!). It was a joy to preserve every detail for the family.

The Birth Video: A Keepsake for Generations

In addition to photos, I created a birth video that the family shared with loved ones. Their reactions were heartfelt, and it meant so much to know the story touched others, too.

If you’re seeking a birth photographer in Covington to document your birth story with care, presence, and artistry, I’d be honored to connect with you. Every birth is unique—and every story deserves to be told.
